The Graves Bear Witness Against the Tyrants of Our Time

We are the rock and the rock is us. We are the soil and the soil is us. We are the olive trees, the ears of grain, the thorny broom, the oaks, the carob and the thyme. We are the river, the citadel, the lilies, the roses and the chrysanthemums. We are the valley, the plain, the meadow and the press. We are the harvests, the mijana and the dalouna. The bitter tobacco plant and we are two lovers.

We are the awl, we are the cactus thorn. We are Abu Dharr's refusal, Hussein's proud dignity at Karbala, Ali's valor at Khaybar and his sword at the Battle of the Confederates. We are the sun and the full moon of the nights. We are toil, sweat and giving. We are the sigh and the sorrow of fate, and we are the steadfastness that never wavers.

You who spread corruption on earth, you are fleeting time and we are history. You are passing through and we are rooted here. We are here and you are passing through.

However many villages you erase and however many graves of our fathers, grandfathers, mothers, grandmothers and martyrs you bulldoze, you will not achieve your aim. Their souls will remain witnesses against the enemies of humanity, crying out in their faces: by God, you will not erase our memory.
