Yohmor al-Chaqif, Signing of "Words of Longing on the Hills of Glory," UNESCO Palace, 2004
A recording of the signing of "Words of Longing on the Hills of Glory" at UNESCO Palace in 2004.
Description from the channel
Yohmor was our warm embrace and will remain so. We have been in Amila for thousands of years. Neither criminal minds nor their instruments will erase our memory. An overwhelming feeling compelled me to publish everything I have about the village and its people. It is a duty, indeed more than a duty, because memory is under ferocious assault.
So that together we may remember loved ones who have gone yet have not left us, and out of longing for faces that are part of ourselves. Documentation is our duty to future generations, to show them by every available means how their fathers and grandfathers lived, and every sweet and bitter detail of their lives. All the alleys bulldozed, all the houses destroyed, the trees, the river, the citadel, the mawwals and the ataba are our history, are Yohmor, are us.
